On Sept. 18, the U of T Arbor Awards recognized four U of T Scarborough alumni for their volunteer efforts.
“For me, this recognition means that we are part of a greater community of people who believe in giving back to a school that has given us so much and ensure that our past successes and lessons can be passed on to upcoming generations of U of T alumni,” says Dorinda So (BBA, 2009), a U of T Scarborough Arbor Award recipient.
Since 1989, more than 2,200 U of T alumni and friends have received Arbor Awards for their tremendous generosity and contribution to the experience of U of T students, faculty, staff and alumni. The awards ceremony is held every year at the U of T President’s official residence. This year, a total of 95 U of T alumni were honoured.
Including So, the U of T Scarborough recipients are Greg Danko (HBA, 2011), Jaymon Hung (BBA, 2010) and Jagjot Singh (BBA, 2006). Even a brief look at their volunteer record displays a passion for mentorship and service.

For several years, Danko contributed to the success of the hockey program at U of T Scarborough. One of those contributions included volunteering from 2011 to 2017 as a coach and mentor in the UTSC Intramural hockey program. Currently, Danko sits on the Athletic Alumni Chapter.
Both Hung and Singh serve on Management Alumni Association executive team, as Manager of Business Development and President, respectively. In 2016, Hung contributed to the launch of MAccFin — a new Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance that will be the first of its kind in North America. Hung also continues to serve as an advisor to U of T Scarborough students in many capacities.
In 2013, Singh launched the idea of Telus Team Mock Interviews – a one-day event where a team of Telus employees conduct mock interviews to develop management students. Since the event began, it has been held annually and is considered a great opportunity for students in the Management Department.
After graduating from the BBA program in 2009, So also returned to campus to share advice with management students. So served as the director of the UTSC alumni association from 2015-2016 and continues to be involved in alumni development and mentorship.
